When the waterproof coating on the outer tent of a tent peels off, repair techniques can be selected based on the type of coating and the degree of damage. The following are the specific methods and steps:
First, if the tent has a common PU waterproof coating and the coating has not completely dissolved
Clean the surface: First, use a wet paper towel or soft cloth to clean the surface of the outer tent of the tent to remove dust and impurities, ensuring that the coating repair area is clean.
Use waterproof repair spray: After the tent is dried, evenly spray DWR (Long-lasting Waterproof) repair spray. Wait for it to dry and a new waterproof protective layer will form, restoring a certain level of waterproof performance.
Second, if the tent is made of single-silicon fabric and the PU layer has dissolved but the silicone oil surface still exists
Apply silicone oil: For single-silicon fabrics, after the PU layer dissolves, the hydrophobic property of silicone oil can be utilized to apply silicone oil to the seams on the silicone oil surface, replacing the original function of the adhesive strips and ensuring that the fabric still has a certain degree of water resistance. However, it should be noted that as the silicone oil layer is worn away, the water resistance will gradually weaken.
Thirdly, if the waterproof rubber strip falls off as a whole and the inner PU layer is still in good condition
Clean the residual glue: Use solvents such as isopropyl alcohol to carefully remove the residual glue from the original aged rubber pressing strips to avoid damaging the microstructure of the PU layer surface.
Secondary gluing: If the gluing strip can be easily torn off as a whole, you can find a merchant with a gluing machine to carry out secondary gluing repair. However, it should be noted that when the original rubber pressing strip is removed, the surface of the PU layer has been damaged, and the durability and strength of the secondary rubber pressing may be inferior to those of the original factory.
Fourth, if you need to repair the waterproof seams by yourself or if the adhesive tape falls off
Prepare the tools: Prepare an electric iron, PU hot-pressed rubber strips, scissors, silicone pads (or thin cloth), paper and other tools.
Test temperature: Test the temperature of the electric iron on the fabric or thin cloth to ensure that the tent fabric is not damaged. It is recommended to set the electric iron to dry ironing mode and control the temperature between 150 and 200 degrees (the temperature for nylon is fine).
Repair steps:
Cut the appropriate PU hot-pressed rubber strips according to the areas that need to be repaired.
Pay attention to distinguishing the front and back sides of the rubber strips, and point the smooth side towards the damaged area of the tent.
Place silicone pads or thin cloth on the tent and then cover it with paper to prevent the iron from directly touching the tent and causing burns.
Press the rubber strip with an electric iron for about 5 to 10 seconds. Observe the stickiness of the rubber strip and ensure the temperature is appropriate.
For longer damaged areas, they can be hot-pressed in sections, and the above steps can be repeated for each section.
Check the effect: After the rubber strip cools down, check the repair effect to ensure waterproofing.
